About Us
Launched in late 2022, Cynefin grew from a desire to make counselling more accessible to people in Cardiff and the surrounding areas.
Our founder and practice manager, Chris Clark, worked with a strategic team of therapists to develop a counselling service that bridges the gap between the long waiting lists of free services and the higher fees of private therapy. Cynefin Therapy opened its doors in January 2024 and in September 2024, launched our psychosexual therapy and relationship therapy services too.
About Our Therapists
Our therapists are in the final stages of their training having successfully completed their fitness to practice.
Though trainee therapists are less experienced, they are much better supported than qualified therapists, they have fewer clients and are eager to learn. Each trainee therapist is supported by their training institution, their supervisor and Cynefin Therapy. Additionally, our therapists are registered student members of professional counselling bodies and Cynefin adheres to the BACP’s Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions (2018). A summary can be found here.
Expanding access to support
At a time when the cost-of-living crisis has put a strain on all our finances, and as we continue to recover from emotional and economic toll of the Covid-19 pandemic, there is a greater need than ever for accessible and affordable therapy.
Recent studies reveal that people with existing mental health issues and those on lower incomes are disproportionately affected and therefore in greater need of support. It is now recognised that there are high levels of unmet need throughout Wales.
Bridging Wales’ Therapy Gap
Accessible, affordable therapy for all
Our Goals
Increase the accessibility of talking therapies for people on lower incomes
Provide a safe, non-judgmental space for people to heal and grow
Offer an alternative to the long waiting lists of free counselling services
Make affordable therapy accessible to everyone who needs it
